Where else can you stay in a Chinese imperial-style palace? While architecturally stunning, regrettably, service encounters are often bureaucratic hurdles akin to taking the painfully elaborate imperial civil-service examination. The hotel lobby is plagued by herds of tourists at the weekends. Also, the food quality is often poor. Avoid the buffets and rooftop banquets whenever possible. Choose the mezzanine Cantonese dim sum restaurant or the Chinese restaurant in the rear wing. Avoid inner, albeit cheaper, rooms as they are completely windowless and air quality is poor. The hotel is geared to tour groups and individual requests may be ignored or shrugged off. |
