An older hotel well past its prime, the Taipei Fortuna offers some of Taipei’s most reasonable prices given its location on Zhongshan North Road. Service is generally friendly if not always competent or efficient. Food quality is nothing to crow about from a gourmet’s point of view, but is solid and well prepared. Across Zhongshan North Road lies Shuangcheng Street, the city’s former redlight district, which is also well past its prime. That said, the “combat zone” offers a bit of character, albeit somewhat seedy and down-in-the-mouth. |
