This circa 1920s property has retained some valuable original features, including cut crystal chandeliers and a soaring marble staircase. The Italianate lobby has been redone and is a melange of colour and comfort, a place where fantastical couches beg to dance with swooping curtains. Guest rooms are spacious, modern and again a cheeky affair, albeit with smallish bathrooms. Art deco takes over in Scala’s Bistro and Harry Denton’s Starlight Room on the 21st floor offers clubbing for the young and beautiful with a killer view.
