Perhaps Montreal's most famous son is poet, novelist and songwriter Leonard Cohen, author of works such as Everybody Knows and Flowers for Hitler. On a par with Cohen, perhaps, is actor and writer William Shatner; the original captain James T. Kirk, of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek. On a more recent front, Melissa auf der Maur, bass player for rock bands Hole and Smashing Pumpkins is originally a Montrealer.
