Getting Around

Metro and bus Montreal's underground railway has four lines extending a total of 65 km. Each station is unique architecturally, many with ceramic murals, stained glass or other decorative features. A single ride is C$2.50, regardless of distance. Tickets are 6 for C$11, while a daily pass is C$7, a three- day pass is C$14, a weekly pass (starting Monday only) is C$18 and a monthly pass is C$59. The same fares apply to Montreal's extensive city bus network, and transfers between the underground and bus systems are free. Tickets and passes are sold at metro stations and at many convenience stores. Transfer tickets are provided by bus drivers when paying the fare and from automatic dispensers in metro stations. Many bus routes originate or terminate at metro stations, making getting around a cinch. For routes and schedules, check www.stm.info. Separate fares are required for buses operating to the off-island suburbs.

Taxis In the central part of the city, it rarely takes more than a minute or two to hail a taxi in the street. Fares start at C$2.50 and rise in five-cent increments based on distance and time. A trip within the city centre rarely costs more than C$10.
