Martin Luther King Jr is Atlanta's best known son - a tireless campaigner for civil rights, equality and non-violence, he is one of the most significant figures in race- relations history.

Margaret Mitchell, while recovering from illness, was persuaded to write a story, and decided upon the razing of Atlanta in 1862. She called her book Gone with the Wind, and the rest, as they say, is history.
