Underground and buses The Tehran Metro is still under construction but the lines that are currently operational go to quite a few places. All the maps and stops are in English and Farsi so tourists shouldn’t get lost. The Tehran bus system covers the entire city but it’s very easy to get lost if you don’t speak Farsi or don’t have a guide who talks Farsi.
Taxi Tehran has two types of taxis: collective taxis and private taxis. Collective taxis travel along set routes and you have to share a small cab with four other passengers. Private taxis are more expensive but they are also more comfortable and they take you directly to where you want to go. The fare to most places in a private taxi shouldn’t be more than 20,000-25,000 rials (about $2.50 to $3.00), but if you want to go from one end of town to the other it could cost as much 70,000 rials (about 9 U.S. dollars). Do not pay more. Also, to be on the safe side, tourists should not take unofficial unregistered taxis, especially late at night, but should only take registered taxis.
