Cultural Do's and Don'ts

Although the dress code in Dubai is fairly liberal, the best rule for women to follow is to cover up if you don’t want to be stared at. Tops a little too low and skirts a little too short may offend. It’s also not advisable for men to remove their tops as this may cause offence. Make sure you pack lightweight clothing and a scarf or jacket for highly air-conditioned venues.

This is a Muslim country, so save the skimpy outfits and beach-wear for the actual beach. During the month of Ramadan it’s advisable not to smoke, drink or eat in public between sunrise and sunset, or dance or sing in public at any time. Even though the pubs and clubs serve alcohol after sunset, there is no live music, DJs, dancing or entertainment. You should also avoid playing loud music, wearing tight clothing or swearing in public as blasphemy is particularly insulting during Ramadan.
