Cultural Do's and Don'ts

Prayer calls are made five times a day from hundreds of minarets throughout the city. The sight of cars parked near mosques and spilling onto the roads is fairly common when it’s prayer time, so don’t be surprised if your way is blocked by vehicles. Local women don’t chat with strangers and neither do they allow you to take pictures of them, but men talk freely. It’s advisable to shake hands with men, but do not turn your back on a Qatari. Also, ensure that when you’re seated, your feet don’t point towards your host.
