Airport Cairo International Airport is 22kms northeast of the city at Heliopolis.
Limousine The best way to get into town from the airport is to hire a ‘limousine’ from one of the companies based in the arrivals hall. They may not be actual limousines, but the late model Mercedes sedans that these companies provide are infinitely more comfortable, and only a little more expensive, than the run-down black and white taxis. Getting to Downtown from the airport can take between 20 minutes late at night or early in the morning, to two hours during the early evening rush hour. Try Misr Limousine (Tel: 685 6721), which charges £6.50, or Rawas Limousine (Tel: 335 0477/349 9831) for a price of £6.25. Taxis The alternative is to take one of the rickety black and white taxis that hover at margins of the parking lot. They will charge whatever they can wangle, but £3.60 is a fairly standard bottom line.
