Beirut International Airport has recently been completely refurbished with new cafes and restaurants in Arrivals and Departures. Getting into Beirut from the airport is relatively straightforward. There are numerous taxis as you walk outsidethe airport and the minimum fare for the short 20 minute journey is $15. There is a cheap bus system but it remains rundown and not recommended for an easy journey. Alternatively you can call before you arrive and book a local cab on arrival at the airport. It should cost no more than 20,000 lira to go to Achrafieh, and 25,000 lira to Ras Beirut. Another option is to take one of the many ‘Servis’ as they are called. Bargain because they will try to rip you off. If you have booked into one of the major hotels they can arrange a car for you in advance. Once in town, there are numerous street taxis known as “servis” which you hail from the side of the road.
