Cultural Do's and Don'ts

This is a safe and open city but there is one thing to remember – you are a guest here and as such should behave as one thus showing due care and attention for the laws of the land. Firstly this is a Muslim country so don’t go out of your way to offend the religion or its teachings in any way - ask permission before photographing people, steer clear of photographing government buildings, dress respectfully and above all else avoid attracting unnecessary attention.

Secondly – don’t break the law. The legal penalties in this part of the world are much more severe than elsewhere. Just handling drugs could result in a life sentence, while pornography and alcohol abuse can also land you in a whole world of bother. At the same time don’t be scared to make the most of your time in Abu Dhabi, the local population may dress a little differently to you but they are no different and are happy to interact with visitors.
