Vilnius international airport
Vilnius is the biggest of Lithuania’s three international airports, serving 20 destinations in Europe direct, and more added every month. It is 5kms from the centre of town.
Mini-cab Only one licensed taxi firm, Martonas, with familiar yellow cabs, has permission to wait for passengers outside the Arrivals area. The trip into town will cost about LTL30.
Car Turn right out of the airport and follow the same road into the city centre. The journey will take about 15-20 minutes.
Bus The number 2 swings by every 10 minutes. It goes in only one direction from the airport and will take you to central locations like Lukiskiu Square and the new business district around Europe Square. You’ll need to buy a ticket at the newsstand in the arrivals terminal or from the driver, then validate it by punching holes in it. One ticket for any single journey costs LTL0.80 (or LTL1 from the driver), so make sure you have change.
Buses and trolleybuses Tickets can be bought at most newsstands and cost LTL0.80 for a single journey. They can also be purchased for LTL1 from the driver after you jump on. Public transport starts moving at around 5.30am and stops soon after 11pm.
Mini-cabs All firms are licensed and should have the meter running by law, but some drivers are likely to overcharge if you speak neither Lithuanian nor Russian. Get your hotel to call for a cab. Charges are LTL2 fl at rate and about LTL1.20 per kilometre after. The yellow Martonas cabs are more expensive, but fast and reliable.
