Where do you live and why?
In the 4th District near Belvedere Palace and Park and only a few minutes walk to Südbahnhof, which means direct connection to Venice, Florence and Rome. We’ve also got great transport links to all the best entertainment around Vienna.
What advice would you give a tourist?
They should visit as many museums as possible (as long as they like art!). The MuseumsQuartier is a perfect location to see contemporary art, combining two big and several small museums at the beautiful baroque former imperial stables. Also, don’t miss the Kunsthistoriches (art history) museum, the Liechtenstein collection in the old Liechtenstein Palace (9th District) and, for a truly Viennese experience, the Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt paintings in the Belvedere Palace.
What advice would you give a visiting businessperson? Vienna’s taxi drivers are not great – and are getting worse. Expect them to be rude, but also be aware that not all know the best or quickest routes across the city. Get your hotel to recommend a good cab company rather than taking a chance. You also need to be aware that all shops and many restaurants are closed on Sundays. They and many businesses are also closed on Catholic holidays. Avoid visiting the Prater.
What and where have been your most memorable meals?
My most recent memorable meal was at Harry’s Time at Luegerplatz (1st District) where the food is top quality and you get as many courses as you can eat for 35.
Where would you take a client to wow them?
The restaurants at the Hotel Schwarzenberg (3rd District) and Palais Coburg (1st District) are superb and highly impressive. For excellent Asian food, it has to be Indochine (1st District).
What do you miss about Vienna when away?
I miss the parks and gardens as well as the fact that within half an hour from the city centre by tram or bus, I can be out in the real countryside going for long walks. And, of course, I miss really good black bread!
