Getting Around

Fiumicino Airport
Rome has two airports. Most international fl ights fl y into Fiumicino, also known as the Leonardo Da Vinci airport. The airport is fairly small and international fl ights usually arrive at terminal C.

Taxi and car Follow the signs in each terminal’s arrivals area for taxi stops.

It will take between 35 and 55 minutes to get to the centre of town. If going by taxi, expect to pay a minimum of €40, and make sure the meter is on when you get in the car.

Bus The Terravision shuttle from the international arrivals gate leaves every hour. A one-way ticket costs €9, return €15. The bus stops at the Termini train station and Tiburtina station. Tickets can be purchased at the Terravision-Cotral stand in the airport.

Train The Leonardo Express to Termini leaves every 30 minutes from the airport, costs €9.5 and takes 35 minutes.

Metro and buses Public transport is not always reliable in Rome, and the best way to get around the city centre is by foot. However, if you don’t feel like walking, try the metro. A BIT is a 75-minute ticket, costing €1, which you can use on either buses, trams or trains. If you’re staying for longer than three days it might be worth buying a weekly pass.

Taxis in Rome are more expensive than in most of Europe, the service is not always the best and rip-offs are still quite frequent. If you want to take a taxi, make sure the meter is working. In Italy you can’t hail taxis, so look out for a taxi rank.
