Cultural Do's and Don'ts

The way of communicating in Oslo offices is surprisingly modern and relaxed. Walk through nearly any door—from Prime Minister Stoltenberg’s to that of a prospective business partner—and they will greet you with a friendly 'hello’ and listen to your agenda. Generally, the tone of voice is efficient and to the point, but seldom formal. Humour is always welcome, even if irony is not always fully absorbed by the practically minded Norwegians. The main key to succeeding in business in Oslo, as in most Scandinavian fields, is to act honestly.
