Getting Around


Airport Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel
Hamburg’s international airport is the hub between northern and eastern Europe. It is 8km from the city centre.

Taxi There are taxi ranks in front of terminals 1 and 4. The journey from the airport into the city takes around 30 minutes and costs approximately €25.

Car The airport is situated between ring roads R2 and R3 on the A433 motorway. The way into the city is well signposted.

Bus The airport city bus runs non-stop between the airport and Hamburg’s main train station daily at 30-minute intervals between 5am and 10.30pm. Tickets are €4.60 and the trip takes between 20–30 minutes. Underground The public airport express (bus 110) runs every 10 minutes between the airport and the Ohlsdorf U-Bahn/S-Bahn stations, a 17-minute ride from the main train station. The fare is €2.30 and the complete trip will take around 35 minutes (www.hvv.de).

Car hire Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt are all represented at the airport; the booking counter is in Terminal 4 (except for Budget, which is in Terminal 3).

Hamburg’s public transport system is efficient, clean and fast. The U-Bahn and S-Bahn are generally the quickest way of getting around, although buses can be a good option as well. Short-trip tickets cost €1.45–€2.30 depending on the distance. A trip between the main train station and Altona takes around 17 minutes.
