The airport Cologne/Bonn is located between the cities of Cologne and Bonn. With its current business policy to attract low-cost carriers, the airport has recently opened a brand-new terminal and an ICE (high-speed train), S-Bahn and regional train connection into Cologne.
Taxi Follow the signs to the taxi ranks. The journey will cost about 25 euros. You can also email in advance: info@taxiruf.de.
Car Follow the signs to the Autobahn A59 towards Cologne. Head to the city centre onto the A559, which will lead you across the river, past the Trade Fair area (Messe) into the city. The distance is 17kms and, depending on traffic, the journey should take 20 minutes.
Train Follow the signs in the terminal to DB connection. The S-Bahn, RegionaExpress and ICE travel to and from Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bonn every five to 10 mins. The journey into Cologne takes 15 mins. S-Bahn tickets cost 2 euros one-way to Cologne’s main station (Haupbahnhof).
Tram The Strassenbahn is the best way to move around town. Confusingly, it can also known as the U-Bahn or underground – because it dips underground from time to time. The system is fairly easy to navigate, the number and destination of the tram is usually clearly displayed at the front and sides of the carriages, and you’ll find route maps at every stop and inside the trams. A journey of one to four stops will cost around 1.20 euros and you can pay for tickets at machines in the stations, or on the trams themselves.
Buses These are best used if you’re taking a trip outside the city.
Taxis The taxis are usually cream-coloured Mercedes and are fully licensed. Mini cabs aren’t a common sight in Cologne.
