Weather and climate
Cardiff is renowned for its wet weather, so make sure you are well equipped with a sturdy umbrella and raincoat. Temperatures in winter can drop as low as -4 so wrap up warm. If you’re lucky enough to visit Cardiff in the summer months (May to October), you may experience temperatures up to the high 20s and blazing heat. Don’t be fooled by clear skies though, the heavens wait for no one!
Local press
Buzz Magazine is a free magazine providing the latest reviews, news and events for the city. Essentially a listings magazine, Buzz is a monthly publication which you pick up in cafes, bars and shops around the city. Call 029 2025 6884.
The Western Mail is a daily morning paper featuring the latest local headlines and issues together with daily supplements. The entertainment guide is included in the Friday paper. It is cheap at only 40p and worth a read to familiarise yourself with the area. Similarly, the South Wales Echo, 37p, is printed daily in the evening and gives an update on the day’s news and happenings. For information on these visit www.icwales.co.uk or call 029 2022 3333.
Tourist Traps
Cardiff is one of the best places to go when it comes to value for money, but be wary of booking accommodation if there’s a major sporting event scheduled. Hotels will often double their rates and may have a minimum stay requirement.
Further, there is limited car parking in the city centre, so several hotels charge between £5 and £7 a night for parking.
