Getting Around

Mass-rapid-transit system, buses and taxis: Taipei's mass-rapid-transit system now serves most major areas, though walking or catching a bus may still be necessary to get to some destinations. Fares on the MRT are NT$20 (US$0.60) to NT$50 (US$1.30), buses are NT$15 or NT$30 depending on how many zones are crossed and taxi rates start at NT$70. A typical cab ride in downtown Taipei rarely exceeds NT$150 and popular suburbs like Tienmou and Yangmingshan fall within NT$300. Rates are 20% higher between 11pm and 6am and on holidays. Cabs are ubiquitous and easy to hail at any time of day or night.
