Getting Around

Sydney city centre is pretty compact and you can walk to many of the main attractions. Otherwise it's a short ride on a bus, train or ferry. The most economic way to get around is to buy a DayTripper, which at $15 is a bargain, taking you virtually anywhere across Sydney on the bus, train or ferry. If you're staying longer, a red weekly TravelPass ($32) gets you around Sydney and the inner suburbs, while the green version ($40) covers all the main destinations.

Taxis taxi ranks are scattered across the CBD. Rates are $2.65 on getting aboard and then $1.53 per kilometre. There's a 20% surcharge 10pm-6am. For information on timetables and fares, call 131 500 or visit www.131500.com.au.

Sydney also has a monorail, which runs a circular route linking Darling Harbour and the city centre. It's not cheap or practical but is relaxing and fun. $4 for a loop, $8 all day (www.metrolightrail.com.au)
