Melbourne fancies itself as a city of the arts and its history backs this up. The Heidelberg school was the first significant art movement in Australia, and the work of its founders (Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin, Charles Conder and others) can still be seen at the Heide Museum of Modern Art in Heidelberg, 15 minutes from the Central Business District (CBD). More recently, the “acting school” that is the Neighbours TV soap has seen the rise of more than one singer/actor, none more famous than Kylie Minogue—a born-and-bred Melbourne girl. One of the most significant feminist voices of the 20th century, the writer, broadcaster and academic Germaine Greer grew up in Melbourne before absconding to the UK. Moonee Pond's most famous housewife and megastar, Dame Edna Everage, as well as the lesser known comedian and performer, Barry Humphries were also born in Melbourne. Other famous Melbournians include the actors Cate Blanchett, Eric Bana and Geoffrey Rush.
