Susan Field is president of SKAL, the travel industry’s representative body in Hong Kong. She has lived in Hong Kong for 20 years.
Where do you live and why?
I live in Mid-Levels. The area is very close to the business focus of the city, but it offers sanctuary in a quiet, leafy environment.
What advice would you give a tourist? Any must dos?
The Peak should not be missed by any tourist—the views are unforgettable.
A trip along west Hollywood is another highlight for me. The antique shops are fascinating and the preserved food shops markets at the end on Queens Road are jaw dropping.
What advice would you give a visiting businessperson?
Bring long-sleeved shirts; the local business environment is quite formal. Always arrive on time and bring plenty of business cards with you.
What and where have been your most memorable meals?
My favourite restaurant at the moment is Goccia, a smart new Italian seafood restaurant on Hollywood Road. I’m also a fan of the Peak Lookout.
Where would you take a client to wow them?
Felix, with its dramatic Philippe Starck-designed dining room on top of the Peninsula, remains the place to be seen. A great place to entertain on the island is Peking Garden in Alexander House.
What do you miss about Hong Kong when you’re away?
Asian food, the rapid pace of life and the ability to get things done in a hurry. I love the wide green spaces that tourists rarely see and I miss the inexpensive, ubiquitous taxis.
