The Big Hunt is whatever you want it to be: a place to flirt, play pool, keep to yourself, dance, or get crazy. Décor is a bit odd, featuring leopard-skin print fabrics and a jungle theme.

This tavern is 40 years old and counting and serves some 800 varieties of beer. Waiters will help you choose. The Brickskeller is just this side of a dive, and attracts an eclectic bunch, from college professors to embassy types.

A tiny bar within the small restaurant within the intimate Hotel Madera. Seat yourself on an ostrich-leather covered stool at the bar and get to know the person closest to you. Firefly draws the mature cool. Bar food is exceptional: grilled Portobello mushrooms and white bean salad.

You enter the Spy Lounge through the adjoining restaurant, Felix, and you can expect the doorman to give you the once- over to see whether you qualify to enter. A spy theme is evinced here: James Bond movies continually play on TV screens. Also a Philippe Starck look: white walls, chrome metal stools, red velvet couch. DJs spin nightly.

Just your old-shoe Irish pub: try it on and it will probably fit. An Irish staff serves you your Auld Dubliner Amber Ale, and live Irish music plays nightly. The Dubliner is a favourite spot for Hill staffers and the press.
