Brasa is the showcase for James Beard award-winning chef Tamara Murphy’s take on Northwest cuisine with a distinctly Mediterranean feel. Murphy simply knows food better than most of her colleagues, giving her the opportunity to create stunning flavour combinations amid perfectly executed dishes. Nearly every dish on the menu is a winner, especially the buttermilk-fried quail. The low-lit modern room lends itself equally well to a quiet dinner or deal-closing meal; superior service. One of the best tables in town.

The neon-shot dining room at Flying Fish is a riot of colour in keeping with the never- ending revellers at Fish’s styling bar. With full-length windows opening onto the street, this could be a hangout on Miami’s South Beach. Chef Christine Keff loves to infuse her dishes with a Pan-Asian sensibility so feast on her rock shrimp spring rolls with a sesame dipping sauce or the Thai crab cakes with lemongrass mayonnaise. The buttermilk-fried chicken with mashed potatoes is a neighbourhood classic. Bar till 2am.

Don’t let the fact that the Oceanaire is part of a small chain scare you away. Chef Kevin Davis, a New Orleans native, knows his fish, period. The crispy river smelt are fried to a golden brown and one of the best appetisers in town. The creole seafood and andouille gumbo is down home divine and the Dungeness crab cakes offer decadent mouthfuls of the crustacean in every bite. The dining room is huge so you’re sure to get a table, and you’ll surely come back.

The Georgian’s splendour, all tinkling chandeliers and fragrant bouquets, is welcoming to both your mother and her mother and let's face it, we all want to dine here at least once. Chef Gavin Stephenson takes this dining room to a new level, resulting in one of the better tables in town, even if the decor could use a lighter hand. Indulge in an astonishing roast loin of venison with a fingerling potato sauté, morels and grilled onions or the grilled prime tenderloin in an oxtail and shallot sauce. Singular, and spendy.
