Seattle / Accommodation / Good Value

This glass-walled hi-rise looms over the downtown district and offers great views from every room. Thanks to a recent renovation, the common areas as well as the dining and guest rooms are at long last fresh and suddenly offering one of the best values in town. Rooms are a study in gold, bronze and hunter green and spacious enough to incorporate seating areas and good work surfaces; executive floors offer a daily buffet breakfast and evening snacks. Skip the in-house restaurants and visit one of the many top tables nearby. Meeting rooms for up to 400.

The Grand Hyatt Seattle is aimed at the most discerning of business travellers. Utterly modern and elegant, it evokes the Northwest at every turn. Public spaces are done in warm pear woods and natural stone and are filled with modern art; the elongated lobby is well-suited to conducting business, less so for an intimate chat. Rooms are beautifully done in brown and silver tones and offer panoramic views (higher up) and a sumptuous bath; the spacious desk comes with a cosseting leather chair and hi-speed net access. 727 Pine is stunning yet deserted so dine nearby. Possibly the best hotel in Seattle. Ultra-tech meeting rooms accommodate 900, stellar gym/health club.

This landmark hotel was built in 1927 and evokes the splendour of pre-war Europe, making it a natural for the Historic Hotels of America portfolio. Spacious rooms and suites are a study in understated taste but starting to show their age; the updated bathrooms are still a bit cramped. A concession to modernity, however, is wireless internet access throughout the property. Andaluca restaurant is the hotel’s excellent Mediterranean-inspired dining room while Oliver’s is renowned for its perfectly blended martini. The property is popular with both business and leisure travellers, especially families, and traditionalists will certainly appreciate the reasonable rates. Afternoon wine reception, meeting rooms for 200.

On a lovely tree-lined street at the outer edge of the downtown district, the Claremont’s European style leads to the sort of snug feeling which only familiarity can normally breed. The lobby evokes a bygone era while rooms are expansive if under-furnished and possessed of all the standard perks. Request a room on one of the recently remodelled floors for a fresher feel. Close to Belltown and its chic boutiques and trendy eateries. Great pricing and even better service equal one incredible find. Small meeting rooms, continental breakfast included in rate.

This hotel, built in the style of a European château, exudes quiet elegance in its spacious, well-appointed lobby. Rooms are done in muted tones and cater to the business traveller via wireless internet access and a large desk; Executive King rooms offer premier views and a jacuzzi bath. The hotel’s gym is open 24 hours and in-room massage is available. Dragonfish Asian Café in the lobby does Pan-Asian bites that can be delivered to your room. At the eastern end of the Downtown district, close by the convention centre. Only knock on the property is the hard-to-explain haughty service. Meeting space for up to 75.
