Although Four Seasons has handed over management of Seattle’s premier hotel to Fairmont Hotel and Resorts, the service for which this property has become known is unblemished and still the best in town. Pure Renaissance fantasy from the street and elegant Edwardian inside, the hotel wisely marries its cosseting surroundings with wireless internet access, thereby luring savvy business travellers. The charming rooms are spacious and decidedly traditional while The Georgian Room, all chandeliers and potted palms, is the place for a celebratory meal or afternoon tea. Repair to the Terrace for a nightcap to the strains of a grand piano. Meeting rooms for 800, indoor pool with retractable roof.

This hotel lacks initial warmth, probably because there’s nothing to greet you on arrival thanks to a squirreled-away lobby on the 14th floor. Add to that the somewhat distant service and you may wonder why you’re here at all. Reasons: rooms with a mega-view, a great location and the requisite perks at a reasonable price. Rooms are standard-issue Hilton, a mix of muted tones and combination working/sitting area. The top-floor Top of the Hilton is where you’ll drink up the view and perhaps a brew – you’re wise to dine elsewhere. A fitness centre is cleverly located on the top floor. Meeting rooms hold 400, wi-fi in lobby.

This vast, twin-towered business hotel on Seattle’s Eastside (a 15-minute car ride from downtown across Lake Washington) makes sense if you have business with tech giant Microsoft or one of a host of nearby tech companies. It’s fairly standard- issue Hyatt here, from the pleasant rooms equipped with the usual perks and nothing more to Chadfield’s, a sports pub with a heavy concentration of suits sipping a brew between meetings. More idle time can be filled at the mammoth (300 stores) Bellevue Square Mall next door or at Bellevue Place Club, the 22,000 square foot health club across the street. Meeting rooms accommodate close to 500.

The Seattle Sheraton may be a large chain\nhotel, but art collections, especially the stunning Chihuly glass, help convey the elegance and comfort of a smaller, select property. In a prime downtown location close to European boutiques and fine dining, the redone lobby is ideal for relaxation or short business meetings. Recently renovated guest rooms showcase a soft palette tinged with gold and include a roomy desk with ergonomic chair and fast internet access. Higher rooms offer the best views and the Club level piles on the perks. Although it’s a busy property, the new look makes it an intriguing choice. Meeting rooms and four ballrooms accommodate almost 2,000.

A much-needed top to bottom renovation is turning this property from just another big hotel into a sleek city-centre retreat. Unsurprisingly, busy is the byword here, as the lobby is in a constant state of hustle and bustle thanks to a gaggle of conventioneers. Seek sanctuary in your room, a black on white refuge where Westin’s signature 'heavenly bed’ (and heavenly it is!) holds sway. Flip through the in-room movies or simply admire the views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic mountain range. The WestinWORKOUT powered by Reebok is the hotel’s swank new health club. Close to Belltown’s chic eateries. Conference and meeting facilities hold a minimum of 2,000.
