The Vintage Park’s concierge, Greg Frederick, is one of the best in town, so if insider tips are important to you, stay at this smart, clubby hotel. The property extols the virtues of Washington wines and the rooms, done in elegant gem tones, are each [name]d after a local winery. Nightly wine tastings in the lobby continue the quaffing theme. Luckily (or not), you will get some work done thanks to the wireless net and speakerphone in your room. The hotel’s one suite is a dream and the size of a small apartment, making it one of the best deals around. Excellent value overall at this cosy destination.

Situated at the top of the Harbour Steps and steps away from Pike Place Market, the Inn at Harbour Steps is a boutique hotel with a bed and breakfast twist. Don’t be fooled by the teddy bear on your bed – this place is luxury all the way. The sunlit library is good for an afternoon read and the setting for the daily wine and hors d’ouevre reception. Rooms, all individually decorated and beautifully appointed, are among the most spacious in the city and include a fireplace, CD player and balcony overlooking the foliage-filled Steps. A gourmet breakfast is included. Charm to burn. Meeting rooms for up to 40, basketball court.

This lovely city-centre 'inn’, perched above the Pike Place Market, is a relaxed alternative to larger downtown hotels. Gold and chocolate brown tones infuse the lobby, where traditional Northwest art is the focus. Rooms upstairs share the same palette and are packed with perks such as wet bar and ample baths. The rooftop, with expansive views of Elliott Bay, is a great place to catch up on work or enjoy a good read. Both Campagne and the more casual Café Campagne are repositories of French bistro fare. A real winner in its price range. Meeting rooms for 20, use of the Seattle Athletic Club nearby. Downtown car service.

Inspired by the Italian Renaissance, this old-world property provides plush comfort alongside proper European correctness. The lobby is utterly serene, a mélange of mahogany and antiques and at its best during afternoon tea. No two guest rooms are alike, yet all offer the ultimate bed and bath experience. Other creature comforts for the business traveller include cordless phones, CD players and oversized desks, while the Hunt Club is ideal for power lunches or a celebratory dinner. A bit north of the downtown hub, it’s a lovely oasis nonetheless. Small meeting rooms, car service in the downtown corridor. Shiatsu massage available on site.

Looking to Europe for its traditions and the modern city for its practicalities, the Warwick is a pleasant place to stay and a good choice for those who want to be close to the Belltown dining/nightlife scene. Rooms are nothing fancy but many do offer a nice view of the Space Needle and a nifty floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door with a step-out balcony. Brasserie Margaux, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, is French, chic and a huge addition to the property, and its bar is a beauty. The price is definitely right for what you’ll get. Meeting rooms for up to 100, 24-hour downtown shuttle.
