This is one of the very few places in the city where you can legally smoke, thanks to the bar’s owner run and operated status. The cigars are handmade, the crowd a mix of North Beach lefties and disaffected techies and the pool tables smoking.

This non-stop, 80-minute musical review skewers everything pop culture, especially those having their fifteen minutes of fame, deserved or otherwise. The big hats, and even bigger voices, are fantastic; show is continually updated, so annual visits make sense.

This San Francisco institution is the perfect spot for a juicy burger after a night on the town. The bright, kitsch-laden room will jolt your senses at 2am, but that may be just the right antidote. If not, order the chocolate shake and call it a night.

The neon-lit floor at this totally-of-the- moment club allows everyone to make their entrance catwalk-style. Goodness knows everyone will be watching, since that’s why they’re here, as well as for the privilege of drinking very expensive bottles of liquor. VIP rooms are beautiful and in demand.

This old rail car dropped into the madness of Polk Gulch is a fave haunt of drag queens, club kids and other denizens of the night. It’s also the best place for a burger and shake at 4am and the people watching is priceless.
