Blues legend John Lee Hooker was the inspiration behind the Boom Boom Room, a recreation of the jazzy juke joints that once lined this street. Red vinyl booths lend a speakeasy vibe that’s ideally suited to the jazz and blues musicians (many of national note) who come to play.

Squint hard enough through the purple haze and you’d swear that’s Janis and Jimi onstage. Sure, the club’s heyday may have been the 1960s but the Fillmore rocks on thanks to the top musical acts that come to play. Tickets can be hard to come by so phone well ahead.

Fronted by blues crooner Boz Scaggs, Slim’s showcases up-and-coming acts that slant toward rock and alternative music. The large [open] room lets you step up close to the music while the tables on the darkened balcony allow you to mellow out in private.
