Located above Sir Winston Churchill’s on the third floor, this bar is decked out in cruise ship motifs – modern and garish. Wednesdays, couples dance to Latin tunes. A band plays on the Fridays and Saturdays, usually a local funk or R'n’B and soul act.

A noteworthy landmark in the nightlife melting pot of Crescent St, this three-storey bar, club, restaurant and terrace gets much of its allure from its association with Formula One racing. Jaques Villeneuve, a former F1 driver, is the owner. The main-floor bar appeals mainly to sharply-dressed middle- aged office workers.

After 11pm, Thursdays through Saturdays, this restaurant turns up the music and becomes a nightclub with astonishingly loud house music. The chic but uninhibited clientele – aspiring jet-setters and celebrities – dance on the tables. Buying your alcohol by the bottle will get you a table and seems practically de rigeur.
