Montreal / Entertainment / Live Music

Smack in the McGill University student ghetto in the basement of the La Cité shopping complex, Cinema du Parc shows cult classics and other eclectic programming on three screens. Little known fact: they still use real butter on their popcorn.

This is where Montrealers come to sing along to all their favourite French-Canadian folk songs. Most of the singing is in French and you’re not likely to know any of the words unless you’re a local. Seated in this den of singing masses, you’re sure to get a taste of the local culture.

Recently renovated, this bar still has plenty of yester[year] charm and old world class. Three tiers of cocktail-lounge seating surround the stage where live acts play nightly. The bar, located off to one side, is the ideal spot a for a secluded chat.

Live jazz, nightly, along with a dinner menu is what you’ll find at this bar located in a semi-basement – so, really, it’s downstairs. A wide selection of beer on tap is offered along with all the usual drinks from the bar. Sundays feature more experimental, lesser known jazz acts.
