With its huge French chateaux mural, luxurious banquettes and extravagant flower displays, L'Orangerie is one of few places in the city for that classic, romantic meal. Recommended are the frothy egg in its shell crowned with sevruga caviar, and crispy rock lobster with basil and filo.

French for ’the hideaway’, La Cachette is a prime spot for power lunches and client dinners. As such, it’s appropriate that the whitewashed ceiling beams, leaded-glass room dividers and navy fabrics create an atmosphere crisper than cosy. A master of traditional French cooking, chef-owner Jean Francois Meteigner manages to give his dishes a modern edge by minimising fat, salt and calories without sacrificing flavour.

With a sit-down dining area to complement the popular wine bar, this romantic little spot is the perfect place for a friendly date or a quick meal after a day of shopping. A small but authentic French menu complements the selection of French wines. A tiny dish of briny olives begins every meal, and cheese plates are arranged by country. The tapas are fine for a snack or full meal.

Wolfgang Puck’s latest restaurant with his trademark open kitchen, features a menu from all over Europe, but specialises in traditional bistro favourites. Recommended dishes are the veal chop studded with cracked peppercorns, and seared tuna napped in basil butter. Desserts are particularly exquisite. Ensure that you save space for the decadent but delicious chocolate soufflé.
