Once just another pretentious coffee shop, even now Brasil serves only beer and wine. However, the lack of hard liquor doesn’t lessen the drama and attitude and posturing and intrigue – a floorshow spiced with the occasional celebrity sighting.

A lean mean see-and-be-seen machine. Full bar, full dance floor, full component of nightlife types – who needs anything else? OK, decent parking would be a nice bonus.

Mint julep? Rob Roy? Sloe gin fizz? It seems unlikely that the cigar-chewing cotton brokers who inhabited this gorgeous space in 1883 drank swank cocktails – it’s also like that the 'absinthe’ on the modern menu is something else, something legal. But why quibble with a swell fantasy, especially when the dream has such a swank setting.

It’s a wonder Danny hasn’t been named in a divorce suit. The bar has 25 TVs, cable and satellite packages for every sports channel known to man, and wireless internet service. Why go to work? Why go home? Why not just stay with your fellow happy, well-fed sports fans at Danny’s?

Over the years, the cunning vintage furniture has become horribly stained without marring the cocktail bar’s popularity. Proof, perhaps, the people come here for the impressive Scotch selection at inexpensive prices instead of the faux 1950s fab decor.
