Denver / Nightlife

A smoky throwback to a simpler, seedier time. The crowd is as diverse as you’ll find in Denver. Jack Kerouac stayed upstairs in the hotel and dedicated poems to Carol, the bar manager. The piano player knows every imaginable old song, and Sunday nights feature spirited karaoke.

A friendly, unpretentious sports bar in the middle of Denver’s smartest neighbourhood. A good place to enjoy pitchers of beer, eat bar snacks and watch a game.

The Cruise Room [open]ed in 1935 on the day prohibition was repealed. It’s modelled after a cocktail lounge on the Queen Mary. Sinatra and Doris Day are on the jukebox, and the place reeks with nostalgia. Lounge lizards of all ages love this elegant little spot.

Dazzle’s bar and lounge, which occupies almost half the space, is the draw. Fresh- pressed juice drinks, six-ounce martinis, and live jazz make this one of Denver’s hottest night time destinations.

A sports bar on steroids – among the 150 TVs is a cinema-sized screen that stands before eight reclining thrones that have built-in speakers. For those more active, there is every imaginable sports-themed video game. The food is basic bar fare, and the drinks a bit pricey.
