Sit on the floor, eat with your hands, and enjoy a gyrating belly dancer. Mataam Fez may sound gimmicky, but it delivers an authentic Moroccan cuisine and experience. Your meal starts with a sprinkle of rose water (on your face and hands) and ends with traditional mint tea. The multiple-course feast includes cous cous, a hearty lamb and lentil soup, a raisin and carrot salad, and b’stella – a pastry filled with chicken, cinnamon and almonds and covered with powder sugar. Main courses include of chicken, lamb or rabbit.

A well-established Denver restaurant, the Red Square recently relocated, changed its [name], and blossomed. Eastern European standards – stroganoff, goulash, grilled beats, stuffed cabbage and grilled eggplant – stand up alongside duck, and beef dishes prepared with rich sauces. The interior has an art deco feel with a lot of reds and Russian accents. You’re likely to find some Russian beauties at the bar, but regardless, this is a great place to enjoy chilled flavoured vodkas.

A Cuban restaurant with influences from Argentina, Spain and Jamaica, the Samba Room provides exceptional food in an exotic atmosphere. Latin music, transparent curtains, a curved staircase and bar, tasty mojitos and margaritas, and a chic crowd make for a unique dining experience. The menu is skewed toward seafood – tuna, Chilean sea bass, shrimp and salmon. Try XimXim, a tangy Cuban dish with chicken and shrimp. Steak and paella round out the menu. Start off with the empanada sampler and end with a cigar at the bar.

Consistently ranked among Denver’s best restaurants, Vesta delivers on its promise of a unique dining experience. The menu is fusion with a lot of Asian and South American influence – try the brown sugar smoked duck, the Moroccan grilled lamb or coconut milk grilled venison, while entrées come with three of Vesta’s 30 dipping sauces. The waiting staff are excellent at assisting the uninitiated. The restaurant is dark, cosy and romantic, while the bar is a wonderful place for cocktails.
