Bukhara is a typical Indian eaterie with staff neatly decked out in baggy pantaloons. Huge tree trunks give the look of a forest and the dim lighting creates an enchanting ambience. The restaurant offers various curries and kebabs, all of which can be washed down with lassi, a serving of yogurt blended with water, ice and sugar. Bukhara is a smash hit and is only five minutes away from the Corniche.

Chingari can become an addiction for fans of Indian cuisine. It offers spicy vegetable and fish curries that will perk up the most jaded palates. Live Indian tabla music, performed by artists flown in from India, adds to the charm and is a hit with the Pakistani community. Low, cushioned seating may seem a little odd, but it’s very comfortable. Don’t be surprised to see staff in turbans and colourful traditional attire.

Star of India, which is owned by the Sterling Group of restaurants, provides typical Indian cuisine ranging from plain rice and lentils to spicy curries, chicken and mutton biryani (rice with chunks of meat) and vegetable curries to go with rotis (wheat bread). Tell the waiter if you don’t want spicy food. It is an affordable outlet near Doha’s famous sports facility.

The traditional Indian decor, music and staff uniforms give the impression that you’ve travelled back in time. The food is just as exotic and there are also special offers such as a set menu—a ‘Mad Chef Promo’ between 6.30pm and 8pm every day which includes a three-course meal and one drink.
