Amman / Nightlife

Although unrelated to its Parisian namesake, it isn’t difficult to see where the inspiration for one of Amman’s latest hotspots comes from. The classic Buddah Bar beats and the exotic cocktails combine nicely in this warm south East Asian atmosphere.

One of Amman’s happening bars with sports events from around the world relayed through the big screen TVs on most evenings, while karaoke and other theme nights round out the week.

A cigar bar on the 10th floor of Jordan’s highest building; Chester’s has been designed in the spirit of an English gentlemen’s club. Sleek, stylish and sophisticated, it is generally frequented by Amman’s older revellers.

The latest addition to Amman’s nightlife, the Cube Lounge is currently enjoying popularity for its funky house music and its champagne cocktails.

Favoured by Amman’s beautiful people, Harir’s classy lounge atmosphere holds up during the week until the arrival of the weekend where thumping beats turn the place into more of an upbeat lounge. No admittance without reservation.

Modelled on a turn of the century Moroccan café, this bar had antique tiles especially flown in from Cairo to match the mood of the era. Consistently one of the best nights out, Nai is the only place in Amman where, on a good night, a good crowd might end up dancing on the tables. It also has surprisingly good food including tasty and generously sized seafood and Asian food platters.

Another restaurant/bar, Oliver’s is a sharp, sleek hangout during the week, with black-and-white photos of goldenage Hollywood stars adorning the walls. It turns into a loud thumping bar on the weekends.

A pleasant little bar and restaurant, Salute really picks up in the summer months when its outdoor beer garden [open]s up. It is a true testament to its popularity that it is the only nightspot in Amman’s notoriously fickle scene that is still running after 10 years in the business.

An East Asian-themed lounge, Silk’s cuisine is a fusion of Indian, Thai and Chinese. The pace picks up with live music on most weekends, and in the summer months, the whole place [open]s out onto Le Royal’s spacious terrace.

Amman never seems to end its love affair with the idea of Irish pubs and the Big Fellow is one of its favourites. It maintains the laid-back feeling of the real thing and is also the best place to enjoy a Guinness or Kilkenny away from home.

With a seating capacity of only 20, the Square Bar is one of Amman’s more intimate hangouts, but it is by far its most luxurious, located in the Four Seasons Hotel. It is also one of the capital’s more expensive watering holes.
