Vienna / Nightlife / Bar / Club

If you’re looking to escape from twentysomethings, Futuregarden is the place to go. This minimalist bar and art club attracts a more mature crowd looking for a lively night out, chilled music and a good selection of drinks. Expect a creative crowd ready to check out the latest artistic display—Futuregarden doubles as a gallery for local artists. The nearest U-Bahn is Neubaugasse, on the U3.

This elegant new bar has been designed with no expense spared in the classic wood and leather department. Located in the trendy 7th District, it has a great cocktail and wine list and Mediterranean food. A place to dress up and be seen.

Vienna’s original American Bar, serving the expected array of high-quality cocktails mixed by a top bartender. In the heart of the city (the nearest tube is Karlsplatz), this is a great way to end—or start—a night out.

During the day this is an upper-class coffee bar and media haunt, by night it turns into one of Vienna’s most sophisticated venues, filled with celebrities, VIPs and the highest of high society. Up on the 6th floor of the HaasHaus building, Onyx has incredible views over the city and especially over the magnificent patterned roof of the Stephansdom (directly opposite). The bar throbs with great music and is regularly hailed as one of the city’s most beautiful nightspots.

This is a hotel bar in one of the city’s most exclusive addresses. Palais Schwarzenberg (still owned by the Schwarzenberg family) is set in its own park covering 18 acres. The baroque palace was built in the early 1700s, so expect plenty of genuine opulence. The bar is often used by the opera-going crowd, so you won’t feel out of place in a dinner jacket.
