Don’t miss this wonderful tea house which offers Viennese specialities as well as amazingly inventive international dishes— try the Chinese, Japanese or full European fried breakfast. Open for brunch, lunch and very English afternoon tea. The menu changes daily and all diners eating after 11am will be offered a free newspaper.

This gem of a restaurant is (deliberately?) difficult to find. You need to know that it’s actually in the basement of the Stock Exchange (Börse). And when you finally get down there, don’t be surprised if you feel like you’ve walked into the middle of a horticultural show—the restaurant nestles alongside a large plant shop. Although Hansen closes too early (last orders 7.30pm) to enjoy dinner here, it makes up for it with excellent cooking from an international menu. It also opens at 9am six days a week (closed on Sunday) to serve a fine breakfast.

Not just crepes but a variety of French, Austrian and international dishes, and all served by the side of the picturesque old Danube. This is a tranquil part of the river, surrounded by trees and romantic, watery scenes. The view from the terrace on a clear night can’t be beaten. If the mood takes you, it’s sometimes possible to book in advance and hire a boat to take your dinner out on the river. The restaurant will pack a picnic—and no ordinary picnic either, but a hamper full of goodies. La Creperie is open seven days a week until midnight.
