Rotterdam / Accommodation

This white box of a hotel isn’t as bland and corporate on the inside as it is on the outside, thanks to its full refurbishment in 2001. The Burberry-type check detailing in the rooms is a welcome contemporary design detail, but take note that room rates do not include breakfast which costs an extra 16 Euros. Free internet access and use of fi tness facilities are a nice touch and the hotel also offers discounted rates at the Kiphof car park over the road. There are extensive business services, including photocopying facilities, secretarial support and a choice of meeting rooms.

This full-frills tower for the culturally inclined businessman is right next to the city’s Museum Park. Rooms are spacious and furnished in an unoffensive, contemporary style. Guests will never get bored of the food served up in Restaurant 70, thanks to the spectacular views of the city and the three different cuisines – New Style, Global and Classic – offered by chef Michel de Koster. The fi ve meeting rooms can accommodate 12-60 delegates and the hotel also offers secretarial services.

Although it’s slightly out of town in the suburb of Vlaardingen, this maritime-themed hotel still offers an authentic experience of Rotterdam as it’s right on the banks of the international ship canal de Nieuwe Waterweg. Guests get the constantly changing backdrop of thousands of passing ships as they arrive in one of the world’s largest ports. The interiors make a refreshing change from the sterile corporate hotels in town, and it has all the business facilities you could wish for. The Delta also won the prestigious Dutch Hotel Award 04-05.

The Inntel offers every facility needed for meetings and conferences, extensive parking space and all rooms have fabulous views of the Maas river and the iconic Erasmus bridge. Its location right by the water means that it’s also possible to access boats for corporate cruises. There are also tempting leisure packages or ‘pamper weekends’ on offer that include free use of their swimming pool, sauna and fi tness room, as well as admission to some of the city’s best attractions.

Further down Weena street, the Hilton may have updated its amenities but its lobby and overall décor is in serious need of some attention. It has an extensive souvenir shop but strangely no restaurant. It’s worth paying a few extra Euros for a room on the ‘executive fl oor’, as it has exclusive access to a clubroom with an open bar, afternoon teas, snacks and an executive concierge in the form of a clubroom hostess. The lack of catering is made up for with good logistics, as the hotel has a direct link to Schiphol Airport every 30 minutes, and a taxi service to Rotterdam Airport every 15 minutes.
