Rome / Accommodation / Classic

Depending on your taste, you might fi nd this hotel tacky or wonderfully original. Architect A Tihany has developed the hotel in three sections: heaven, hell and purgatory. Each one is decorated accordingly, in different colours and styles. The main bar is set in the hell section, and the devilish barman there is called Angelo. The spa is housed in the heavenly part of the hotel, while the rooms are in purgatory. Defi nitely eccentric, you’ll either love it or hate it.

Another brand new Boscolo hotel, right by the Termini station. This hotel has been used as one of the sets for the new Ocean’s Twelve movie. Rooms are very spacious and decorated with flawless taste. The rooftop bar is one of the hot meeting spots in Rome, even for non-guests. The hotel is right next to one of Rome’s largest movie theatres, convenient for a relaxing evening if you don’t feel like venturing out too far.

Located in the historical centre of the city, and yet in a quiet spot, this newly opened hotel targets mainly business travellers. The international staff are very friendly even if sometimes not especially effi cient. Minimalist decor and clean lines give the hotel a sharp look. Each of the fi ve fl oors is dedicated to an Italian master of the 20th century. All rooms enjoy a spectacular view of the Temple of Vesta.

One of central Rome’s most prestigious hotels, the Plaza has wonderful suites and great service. Located just two blocks away from the exclusive Via Condotti, it has hosted a long list of celebrities from Pope Leone X to Andrea Bocelli and Robbie Williams.

The Wirth family has been in the hospitality business for more than 100 years, and the small Hotel Hassler is probably the best demonstration of this long tradition. The hotel has a million-dollar location, right on top of the Spanish Steps, from where you’ll feel on top of the world. The internal garden is a beautiful oasis of tranquillity and luxury, while the Salone Eva is a warm and welcoming dining room packed with an extensive collection of 18th- and 19th-century books.
