Rome / Accommodation

A convenient, clean three-star hotel situated near Termini train station. Hotel Aberdeen is only two blocks away from the Opera House. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Notwithstanding the proximity to the station, the hotel is on a very quiet and safe street.

In an elegant palazzo with a view over the Villa Borghese, the Aldrovandi is situated in the Parioli area of Rome, and offers rooms decorated in keeping with the 19th-century splendour of the building. It was entirely refurbished at the beginning of 2004. This is one of the few hotels in Rome where you’ll find a good sized swimming pool. A spa will be added to the gym in 2005.

Depending on your taste, you might fi nd this hotel tacky or wonderfully original. Architect A Tihany has developed the hotel in three sections: heaven, hell and purgatory. Each one is decorated accordingly, in different colours and styles. The main bar is set in the hell section, and the devilish barman there is called Angelo. The spa is housed in the heavenly part of the hotel, while the rooms are in purgatory. Defi nitely eccentric, you’ll either love it or hate it.

Set in the heart of the artsy Trident area, the Art Hotel combines old and new to stunning effect. The spacious, airy lobby, which features ultra-modern furnishings, is set in a 15th-century chapel. This contrast between tradition and modernity makes this small boutique hotel a unique fi nd on the Roman hospitality scene. Staff are friendly and the rooms cosy. Each fl oor is decorated in a different colour according to the rules of Feng Shui.

Since 1874 the Bristol Hotel has been housed in this palace in the heart of Rome, facing the Triton Fountain, one of the most beautiful in the city. Rooms are bright and fairly ample, decorated in a classic style; all richly patterned carpets and heavy drapes. Ask for a room on one of the top fl oors if you want to avoid the noise of the street.
