This friendly family-run hotel is a good alternative to the modern business chain and although it has no business facilities, it is almost next door to the Espace Champerret congress space and conveniently placed for La Défense and the Palais des Congrès. The owners have taken great care with the decoration, which features an original art deco staircase and open-plan lounge and bar, where fibre optic lighting and modern chandeliers meet oil paintings and antique furniture. The individually-styled bedrooms are sunny and spacious, ranging from classical stripes to romantic affairs with toile de jouy and canopied beds.

This stylish yet relaxed small hotel in an 18th-century hôtel particulier built for the Medici family has a great central location near the Luxembourg Gardens and very helpful staff. Decorated by Jean-Philippe Nuel, the rooms are compact but comfortable, favouring clean lines and warm cream, chocolate or plum tones. There’s a small patio garden and a salon with log fire and fabulous flower arrangements.
