A heated outdoor smoking area may not be the ideal environment to sample Cuba’s finest cigars, but a great range of cognacs, whisky and Belgium beers keeps this sociable spot popular with local businessmen, despite the smoking ban.

Micro-sized bar with a big reputation serving sugar-cane-based cocktails to an impeccable soundtrack of classic jazz. Owner Jan Vardøen—Country & Western musician and TV star—is an Oslo legend.

Up-and-coming Grönland’s hottest bar is a comfortable mix of posers and professionals. It has a simple, modern interior with a couple of quirky touches— table hockey, unisex toilets—and is pleasantly uncrowded early in the week.

This glamorous two-storey bar replaced a landmark fish and game shop, but however brutal the substitution, Champagneria’s huge selection of champagne, wine and light meals makes the loss easier to bear. A huge, upscale West End crowd meet to gossip and network in the bar’s hip interior.

Testcard art on the walls, mesmerising lighting and chilled sounds bring an arty crowd to this bar (which also has a restaurant). But don’t be intimidated. Draw up a chrome bar stool, order a Hansa beer and you’ll soon be part of the scene.
