A lively and popular port-side restaurant that serves excellent fresh fish and hearty meat dishes. Amidst a row of other eateries along the waterside, La Barque Bleue stands out as one of the best with good food, amiable staff and a busy terrace overlooking the port.

Something for the veggies, this superb vegetarian restaurant on the port of Nice has a lively yet intimate atmosphere complete with a chef that can be heard singing opera from the kitchen. There is no menu – instead diners are treated to a five-course meal of meat-free heaven. This is a must for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.

This institution on one of Nice’s loveliest historic squares has two dining rooms. A simple oyster bar dedicated to claires, belons, creuses de Bouzigues, plus mussels, shrimps, crab and lobster. There are huge platters for two (Pzacha at €58, L’Admiral at €78) served in the original restaurant with its big mirrors and outdoor terrace. The Grand Café is not for the faint-hearted and is often crowded and raucous.

Smart oak panel surroundings and stone floor make this an elegant little paradise for fans of the tuber melanosporum (black French truffles). Truffles are served as snacks with your glass of wine or you can choose from two menus featuring truffles with potatoes, risotto or gnocchi – the latter is unmissable. Closed Sundays.
