Recently opened, The Place is Manchester’s finest example of the new trend in what are being called apartment-hotels—this is loft apartment living with all the amenities of a first-class hotel. The apartments are big and beautifully designed: the building itself is a sensitively converted Grade II Victorian warehouse. The bathrooms are bright and airy and, while each of the rooms is characterised by exposed brickwork, the use of local art gives the place a homely feel. Each apartment has an individually designed modern fitted kitchen and is equipped with everything you might need. Ideal for longer trips, the sense of space it gives you is a million miles from the slight sense of claustrophobia that some conventional hotels can impart.

Set in the centre of the city, the Atrium has a number of self-contained serviced apartments. The communal area and entrance is Victorian and fl ooded with light, and the welcome is warm. Rooms are a good size and each lounge has a well-equipped area to conduct business. Bathrooms are larger than average and the whole affair has an extremely clean businesslike feel to it.
