It doesn’t get much more French than this charming little bistro. Walls are packed with local art, candles drip, and Alain the French barkeeper will speak to you in his native tongue unless otherwise instructed. To fit in, all you need to do is order a glass of house wine and open the latest edition of Le Monde. The kitchen serves good French food. Try the house speciality of clams cooked in white wine.

This restaurant has it all; first class gourmet food, reasonable prices, and it comes highly recommended by Gourmet magazine as well as the local press. The kitchen’s main inspiration comes from French cuisine, but there are also Spanish and Italian infl uences. The bistro offers plain French food and drinks, and in the summer the food is best enjoyed outdoors, facing the green and quiet Kunsparken.

This is another of the handful of restaurants in Malmö serving traditional Swedish food. Here you can get the classics—such as meatballs with lingonberry jam or marinated dried salmon with dill potatoes—as well as veal or lamb with root vegetables and red wine sauce. For dessert try the delicious rhubarb soup with icecream and blueberries.

Serving monkfi sh, sole, lobster, caviar and a shoal of other fi sh, this is Malmö’s best fi sh restaurant, located at Saluhallen indoor food market. It’s a bit expensive, but worth every krona. Come to eat fresh fi sh in Nordic style, cooked with south European inspiration, complemented by a well thought-out wine list. Inside Saluhallen, Johan P has its own well-stocked fi sh shop.

Rådhuskällaren is the place to head to if you want to sample traditional Swedish fare. Located in a renovated 16th-century basement with whitewashed walls and light-wood decorations, it has been drawing a loyal crowd for years. The menu offers solid, yet interesting Swedish dishes. Grilled meat is at the top of every evening menu, but there’s always a veggie dish or two for less carnivorous diners. The wine list is superb, and the desserts provide a delicate end to an enjoyable meal.
