The hotel is located close to Madrid’s business and cultural centre, and was the fi rst modern hotel to be built in Madrid after the Spanish Civil War. It has recently been completely remodelled and now unites a classic appearance with the very latest in technology. The spectacular garden, situated like an oasis in the centre of the hotel, is a major attraction with its outdoor restaurant in summer. The à la carte restaurant El Café offers light Mediterranean cuisine.

A favoured luxury haunt of British and American businessmen, in the exclusive Barrio de Salamanca. Although recently renovated, the original style has been carefully preserved. Guest rooms are unexpectedly spacious for such a central location, with those on the higher fl oors enjoying better views and extra amenities. Ask for one of the balconied rooms with superb views over the Retiro (suite 301 has the best view of all). The cosmopolitan clientele produces an urbane, sophisticated buzz, especially in the Bar Inglés. The excellent Basque restaurant Goizeko Wellington is worth a visit.
