Istanbul / Nightlife

The city’s foremost venue for live acts, including big names from the world of jazz, house and world music, also has some funky club nights. Check out a programme to see what’s coming up.

On the top floor of an apartment building high above the city—Besince Kat actually means 5th floor—this place is a wee bit hard to find. But it’s well worth persevering as the view is fantastic, the bar well stocked and there’s an excellent menu too.

Sitting on its own island in the Bosporus, this trendy club and restaurant complex has a swimming pool for daytime use. After dark, you can dine by candlelight in one of three restaurants, then dance the night away.

A continental café cum bar that wouldn’t be out of place in a Parisian neighbourhood, Kaktus is a popular local haunt and the perfect place to take a break from shopping on Istiklal Caddesi for a coffee or a cool beer.

Laila is Istanbul’s swankiest night-spot, a sprawling mega-club on terraces overlooking the Bosporus. The playlist is an insipid mix of Turkish pop and Euro-house and bar prices are steep. But it is the spot to be seen. [open] in summer only.
